Training

At Ormerod we believe every member of our team needs to be well trained in the right areas to provide the best support. As an Investors in People organisation we are proud that we value our staff and a key part of this is ensuring they receive the right training to succeed.

Every staff member, including those who are fully qualified, are expected to complete the Care Certificate in the first 12 weeks of their employment with Ormerod. We start this by having a five day classroom based induction where you will learn about how to provide care and support as well as getting to meet members of our management team. This is greater than many organisations provide and we do this to ensure that the people who join us are properly supported and are clear on what we require in terms of the right ethos, values, attitudes and beliefs. After completing this first week new staff will initially be supervised closely to give opportunity for them to ask any questions and for the supervisor to see the person interact with the people we support. Only once we are happy that the member of staff can lone work will we sign them off to do so. The time for this varies depending on the skills, confidence, and experience of the staff member.

Our training is then further refined so that it reflects the support needs of the people the staff member will be working with, rather than providing generic training. After a person passes their probation then they will be considered to do the QCF level 2 (formerly NVQ) in their relevant area of work. To develop careers further QCF level 3 opportunities are also available for those interested in management opportunities.

Our success in supporting people to develop their skills is also reflected in our management team which consists of a number of members who originally joined us as Support Workers.
